program-related investments

A Program-Related Investment is an investment that is (i) made to advance the charitable purpose of a foundation, (ii) does not have as a significant purpose income production or property appreciation; and (ii) does not have as its purpose any of the disqualifying purposes described in IRC § 170(c)(2)(D). A PRI is often in a risk category that could otherwise result in a jeopardizing investment excise tax penalty.
