SeaChange is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-starting individual to join our small, high-performing team as an Associate. The ideal candidate will have excellent quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills with a demonstrated interest in the social sector.

About the Position:
The Associate will principally work with our New York City-based program team. Areas of focus will be lending, grantmaking, and transaction support for nonprofits. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

  • Credit and Grant Due Diligence: review and analyze financial and organizational documents, build financial models, identify the key issues and opportunities for prospective loans and grants
  • Execution Support: assist in structuring new loans and grants, interact with legal counsel, liaise with co-investors, prepare and draft term sheets, and investment proposals for funders
  • Portfolio Management: ongoing engagement with borrowers and grantees, including review of regular update reports, evaluation of individual deals, analysis of borrower’s underlying financials and overall portfolio performance, management and maintenance of internal loan monitoring systems
  • Consulting and Advisory: support nonprofits with financial analysis and scenario planning with input from leadership teams and boards; creation of deliverables summarizing findings and recommendations (typically a report and/or financial model/analysis and corresponding presentation to the leadership team and board)
  • Participation in SeaChange board meetings and investment committee meetings
  • Contributing positively to the teamwork, culture, and learning of a small, entrepreneurial organization

The Associate will work most closely with Jess Cavagnero and Taj Tabassoom. We are committed to the development of our team and will support opportunities for the Associate to work with our other program areas as appropriate.

Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Two to four years of experience in investment banking, strategy consulting, investment management, or lending with a demonstrated ability in interpreting and summarizing complex data (including financial statements) in the form of spreadsheet-based models and/or exhibits; a penchant for analysis and critical thinking
  • A demonstrated interest (through professional or volunteer activities) in the nonprofit sector
  • The professionalism, maturity, and confidence to work and develop relationships with nonprofit leaders in a wide variety of challenging, confidential and sensitive situations
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills
  • Entrepreneurial, energetic, self-organized, risk-tolerant, curious, and in possession of a good sense of humor
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) required
  • Proficiency in Excel; Knowledge of Salesforce, InDesign, R, Python, etc. a plus
